The Vasco Railway Underbridge: A Decades-Old Promise Delivered
The highlight of the day was the official inauguration of the Vasco Railway Underbridge. For years, the people of Vasco have navigated severe traffic snarls and delays caused by railway crossings. The upgraded underbridge is designed to provide a seamless transit route, particularly for emergency services like ambulances and fire tenders that previously struggled with railway-related stalls.
Vision for ‘Sun, Sand, Sea, and Sports’
A key component of the day’s proceedings was the foundation stone laying for an Integrated Sports, Recreational, and Commercial Development project. The new sports complex will feature:

Economic Revitalization: The New Municipal Commercial Complex
Recognizing the need for structured urban growth, the Chief Minister also initiated the construction of a new Municipal Commercial Complex for the Mormugao Municipal Council. With a tendered cost of approximately ₹8.35 crore, this project is expected to become a hub for local business activity.
The complex will provide:
- Modern retail shops and office spaces.
- Dedicated parking facilities to reduce roadside congestion.
- Essential infrastructure to support sustainable urban development in the surrounding areas.

The ceremony was attended by a galaxy of dignitaries, including Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, Social Welfare Minister Vishwajit Rane, and local MLAs Krishna V. Salkar and Sankalp P. Amonkar. Chief Minister Sawant emphasized that these projects are part of a broader fiscal strategy, noting that the state is focusing on “sustainable borrowings” to fund center-backed infrastructure.
