The political temperature in Goa intensified as BJP leaders strongly criticized the opposition over the Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it a setback for women’s empowerment and representation. The remarks came during a gathering in Panjim, where leaders addressed supporters and voiced their concerns over the developments surrounding the bill.

BJP MLA Deviya Vishwajit Rane delivered a forceful statement, emphasizing the crucial role of women in shaping the nation’s future. She asserted that for a developed India, women—who constitute nearly 50 percent of the population—must be active lawmakers, policymakers, and changemakers. Highlighting the emotional aspect of the issue, she described the bill as a long-standing aspiration of women across the country.

“It is our equal right. It was our dream, it was our hope, and they have trampled on our hope and self-respect,” she said, expressing strong disappointment over the opposition’s stance. Rane further alleged that the Congress party does not want women to rise and benefit from the transformative potential of the bill.

Taking a sharp political tone, she accused the opposition of engaging in what she described as “low calibre politics,” stating that such actions hinder progress and deny women their rightful place in governance. She also issued a strong political message, declaring that women voters in Goa would respond decisively in the 2027 elections, signaling the issue’s growing electoral significance.

Adding to the criticism, BJP MLA Delilah Lobo echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the collective voice of women in the state. “All the women of Goa have gathered here,” she said, portraying the moment as a unified stand against what she termed an injustice.

Lobo further remarked that it was a “sad day for women across the country” when the bill was allegedly obstructed on the 17th, reinforcing the narrative that the move has deeply impacted women’s aspirations nationwide.

The statements from Goa BJP leaders reflect a broader political narrative emerging across the country, where the Women’s Reservation Bill has become a central issue in the ongoing discourse. Leaders are increasingly positioning it as a defining factor in upcoming elections, particularly in terms of women’s participation and empowerment.

The strong remarks from Panjim underline the growing intensity of the debate, with women’s representation now taking center stage in political campaigns and public discussions. As the issue continues to evolve, it is expected to play a crucial role in shaping voter sentiment and political strategies in the coming years.
